Default Driver's side window smashes. Should I try to replace it?

I made the mistake of leaving the SatNav mount on the windscreen and some scrote smashed the side window in the (vain) hope of stealing the TomTom.

So, I have a Vectra without a driver's side window, and a Hoover bag now full of broken glass.

The Haynes manual describes it as a 4 out of 5 spanner job, and you need a pop-rivet gun (which I don't have, but would buy) and an 8.5mm drill bit to remove the old rivet heads (where the ****** heck do you get an 8.5mm drill bit from)....

I am mad to even consider taking this job on?

In the past I've successfully removed doorcards, replaced doorhandles, front bumpers, pollen filters, etc as per Haynes, so I'm not a complete numpty. But neither am I Carroll Shelby.

Many thanks all for any advice.

Apologies, I tripped the swear filter. It wasn't that bad a word, honest.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply.

TBH I'm not sure, will ring them in the morning -although German call centres aren't renowned for being open on Sundays.

Obviously I want to avoid losing my NCB because that really is punitive over here.

I've only had the motor 10 days. i s'post it's my own silly fault for leaving the mount on the windscreen, I'm so angry with myself at the moment. Grrr.

i once had a window smashed got a local comapny to fit a secondhand window pane, also the call out people should be 24hours, search one out local to you get a price, dont be shy to ask them to give a little money off if you use a local buisness.

You reckon? I'm a bit worried about the drilling out of rivets and replacing them for the window regulator.
I think I can get a replacement for about €50 from a scrappy.
