Here is my wish list for the next Vectra or Insignia or whatever the will call it.
Insignia is a poor choice of name for a car.
If Vauxhall carry on with this name, I suppose they will call the base version as the "Shampoo", the middle version will be the "Shower Gel", the top of the range will be "Deodorant" and the sporty version will be the "Aftershave Lotion".
Why not call it the Vauxhall Monza in reference to the Coupé made by Opel from 1978 to 1986?
I think "Monza" is a great name for a car. Not to mention it sounds much better than "Insigniaaaaaaaaa".
Vauxhall proved with the new Astra they can make a family car with styling flair. So my suggestion is, give the Vectra replacement a sleek profile similar to the MB CLS.
The handling always has been the Vectra Achilles heel IMO. Vauxhall never got the Vectra right in this department.
I suggest Vauxhall to let the boffins at Prodrive use their magic to develop the chassis for the Vectra replacement.
And please...give the Vectra the option of 4WD. The VXR has got to be a hunkered down road rocket to honor the legendary Lotus Carlton.
I reckon the Vectra range should be limited to only 5 versions.
The Exclusiv is not that ExclusivE. Not to mention "Exclusiv" sounds silly.
I read recently that most manufacturers would be downsizing their engine sizes and fitting turbos. I suppose it's a case of making engines more efficient and helping to produce lower emmissions.
So here is my engine range (all of them with Direct Injection)
1.6 16V 4 Cylinders Turbo 160 Bhp
2.2 16V 4 Cylinders NA 176 Bhp.
3.6 V6 24V NA 270 Bhp
3.6 V6 24V Twin-Turbo 360 Bhp
2.0 16V 4 Cylinders Turbo 150 Bhp
3.0 V6 24V Twin-Turbo 240 Bhp
THE ELITE, SRi and VXR
Elite: 4WD - 3.6 V6 24V 270 Bhp, 3.0 V6 24V Twin-Turbo Diesel 240 Bhp, 6-Speed Automatic.
SRi: 4WD - 3.6 V6 24V 270 Bhp 6-Speed Manual.
VXR: 4WD - 3.6 V6 24V Twin-Turbo 360 Bhp 6-Speed Manual.
THE CLUB and DESIGN
Club: FWD 1.6 16V Turbo 160 Bhp, 2.0 16V Turbodiesel 150 Bhp, 5-Speed Manual or 6-Speed Automatic.
Design: FWD - 1.6 16V Turbo 160 Bhp, 2.2 16V 176 Bhp, 2.0 16V Turbodiesel 150 Bhp. 4WD - 3.0 V6 24V Twin-Turbodiesel 240 Bhp. 5-Speed Manual or 6-Speed Automatic.
I don't think I'm asking too much.
If Mr. Forster really is a "visionary man". He will realize that changing the name, will not be good enough if the car turns out to be another Jack of all Trades and Master of None like the current Vectra, which it is a competent car but not excellent.
No cost saving this time, push it to the limit! Come on Vauxhall you can do it!
I want Vauxhall to kick Ford and VW's ars3 in the midsize family car segment.
