Go into Jessops and try them for size, see if its comfortable in your hands and you can operate it.
A[art from that they are all very good!
Take a look through the specs within your price range.... look for things you definitely must have first... then for things that might be nice.
Simple controls that you can actually use - a wonderful camera isn't much use if you keep pressing the wrong buttons.
Common sense things to me would be the best OPTICAL zoom you can get (digital zoom only computer enhances the optical image you already have).
Uses common batteries such as AA rather than in-built - easier to get AAs when you're on holiday somewhere than find somewhere to plug in to recharge.
Uses commonly available removeable memory media such as SDHC - cheaper to have spare cards for a long trip or replace an SD if it dies.
Decent sized screen is nice - nothing worse than trying to faff about working out if you got a good shot when you're looking at a tiny screen.
However, the elements that are important to you, only you can decide.
cheers lads like i said not massively in to cameras so want somet decentish to start with keep seeing these slr cameras i dont have a clue lol
I have a Sony A390, good camera , haven't worked it all out yet but does take brilliant pics
