Default cruise control in an automatic

as the title suggests, i have a manual at the mo, and as expected the cruise control cuts off when teh revs dip below about 1000rpm. THe question I hae is this; does it do the same on an automatic car, or does the auto box just change down a gear to maintain the speed?

The auto box will certainly accelerate through the gears with cruise control on as I quite often hit the button coming off roundabouts and leave the car to get back to speed itself. Can't remember specifically but I think I can remember it changing down automatically on hills

Sometimes can be a pain on small hills where you get a sudden surge when the box drops a cog on say a motorway. To stop it from happening I move the tiptronic lever to manual mode across to stop the box from changing down.

I'm lost here. Surely it's all about whether or not you hit your brake pedal (which will cancell your cruise control instantly). Other than that, it should maintain the setting you gave it. That is what cruise control is all about, set it, but the use of a brake pedal cancels it ? Well that's what my auto 3.2 does anyway and I wouldn't have expected anything else.

in a manual, the cruise control automatically shuts off when the revs dip too low (below about 1000rpm) I presume this is to ensure the car doesn't stall. My question has been answered, that in an auto box, if the revs dip to 1000rpm (like if you're going up a hill) then the box drops a cog to maintain the speed.

    Thanks for your help guys!

if you have cruise control on ,the car is very unlikely to drop below 1000 .not unless you have c/c set at 35 and are going down hill lol .but then again it will change down gears and you'll find yourself in 1st or 2nd. I personally am not that lazy and only use c/c when cruising at 70.

I often use c/c on straight b roads so that i don't stray over the speed limit, but only having the 120 engine means that an sort of medium to large incline, the revs drop
