Default normal voltages after alternator replacement?

After the advise here, I changed the alternator on my 1.8 vectra, very happy I was with myself.

I have done some meter readings after a drive and when the engine is off the battery reads 13.4 volts and when running the reading is 14.9 volts.

Do these sound right ? the old alternator was 12.5 volts with engine off and 14 when running. So there is definitely a difference and the limp home mode and power steering problems have gone away now.

Your readings certainly sound a bit high to be honest! Are you using the same multimeter as before? A 12v battery has 6 cells at 2.1 volts per cell so it really shouldnt be much over 12.6v fully charged, 11.7v is fully discharged.

Lead acid really does not like being charged at more than 14.4v so your 14.9v might be in danger of damaging the battery if the voltage measured is accurate.

When I measured my 1.8 vvt running it was pumping out a steady 14.7 volts.

No adverse effects here so far
