Alternator question...

Not sure how to explain what I'm asking but...

As the engine RPM's increase, does the speed of the alternator belt turning increase?

Just wondering as our 120 has developed a rattle noise from around 1500 rpm to probably 2000 rpm. I've read that the alternator pulley can rattle?

I wish I drove the car more often, as everytime I drive it I notice something...

So is that a whole alternator replacement? I've noticed its worse during cold evenings, but now its audible when warm too.
