Default went to toolstation for a aplicator gun and came out with a polisher

as above was in toolstation today all i wanted was a aplicator gun for some silacone but looked in their catalog and seen this
    http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Sand...+180mm+/p84532
now i know its a cheap and nasty thing but i thought for £40 i might as well try.

so i got a sponge pad for compounding from a motorstore and had a play i used my spoiler as a tester as its not on my car so it didnt matter if i messed it up but it all seems good. heavy but good and easy to use.

now i have a few questions.

1, it has 6 speed settings starting from 600rpm upto 3000rpm i used speed 2 which is about 900rpm, what speed does it work best at.

2, i know i have to keep the sponge wet am i best dipping the sponge in the water or have my hose pipe on mist and keep wetting the car.

3, when i use the compound and i do a little section do i need to wipe it off stright away or can i complete say the roof then wipe it all off,

also when im putting the liquid polish on do i put it on by hand and buff it up with the machine or can i get another round sponge adapter and put the wax on with that.

any help will be greatful thanks

I have seen ones like this and wondered but for 40 quid more you can get a da and dont have to worry about ruining your paint or swirl marks as much lol

1, it has 6 speed settings starting from 600rpm upto 3000rpm i used speed 2 which is about 900rpm, what speed does it work best at. 1-3 will be for applying polish, 4-5 will be for cutting the paint or compounding, never use setting 6 it will be too fast and burn the paint its more for the bodyshop people

2, i know i have to keep the sponge wet am i best dipping the sponge in the water or have my hose pipe on mist and keep wetting the car. Your better off having a spray bottle with water in it and spray each pannel lightly before you run the machine over it. If you had a DA you wouldnt need to do this step

3, when i use the compound and i do a little section do i need to wipe it off stright away or can i complete say the roof then wipe it all off, Depens on weather conditions really, if its hot then id wipe it off asap if its a cool day/evening not sun then you could do the full panel. Your better of not doing it on a too hot day as the compound wont work properly.

also when im putting the liquid polish on do i put it on by hand and buff it up with the machine or can i get another round sponge adapter and put the wax on with that. Put the polish direct on to the pad, you can do a circle of polish or pea size dots choice is really up to you

It came with a big wollen one I think for buffing and a Sanding disk I just took it in to a car spares shop and said I want something that will fit so I can mop the car with mags compound. Their was 3 different ones that just screwed on to it so its perfect.also it has a disk with a hook and loop design so can get other pads for it. Going out at weekend to see what else I can get for it

The big wollen one will be a heavy cutting pad to be used after you have wet sanded the car use it at your own risk! use foam pads only
