Eek Replacing faulty REC on a vectra-c estate 2005 model

    Hi!

I have a faulty REC (Rear Electrical Center, also know as the rear fuse box) due to short circut of my licenseplate lights.

Found one with identical partno and Ident (EZ) on a local salvageyard, that I bought. I then went to my local Opel-dealer to have it programmed to my car. (Rear hatch on my estate did not work after replacing the REC). But to my surprise they claimed that my new part was useless, since it was not cleared from the donor car. Without it beeing cleared they where unable to program it.
I have the VIN no from the donor car, but they said it was impossible to clear/factory reset the REC once it was removed from the donor car.
Is this actually the case?? Or is my local dealer trying to rip me off, forcing me to buy a new part?
They quoted me £1000 for a new REC (Yes, I live in Norway, and everything is expencive here, but give me a break!!! )

Hope someone here could shed some light on this matter.

if you have the vin no. from the used part they can order themselves the car pass with security code to unpair it and then re-pair it to yours, i've done this several times on other uniits..

Ok, thank you for this quick reply! Just to be 100% sure I understand... The approach you describe is possible without access to the donor car? (it's allready on it's way to become nails)

If it is a dealer, then they will be able to read the security code from most components using Tech 2, 3 or later software.

If you PM me the VIN number, I shall see if it is on my database.

(before anyone asks, it does not cover uk models, just parts of mainland Europe)

If your VIN is on my list, I will PM you any details that I find.

If you then give the security code to the dealer , he WILL be able to divorce it from the old security set-up,

He can then pair it into your car with you own car pass code.

I had a look in both my databases, and also my VIN to code converter program..

I am sorry to say that the VIN number that you supplied was not recognised / not listed.

It was worth a try, but unsuccessful today.
