Hi everyone,
I brought my car 4 and half years ago, when i was buying my car and i was looking around it, i noticed the speedo clock mileage said its around 10k, then i looked at the bc display that said 18k, i thought hmmm but i could of been seeing things. I brought it from a Car supermarket called Motorpoint, so i thought they would off done a full check on the car. When i took the car home, it was a new car so i was just playing with the bc and accidently reset the bc trip mileage by mistake, oops.
A month later i went to Vauxhall and asked one of the mechanics if the bc display shows up 5 digits or 4 digits for trip mileage, he said 4 so i was stupid enough to take his word for it.
After a couple years of driving the car, i finally had it go on 9999 miles on the bc, because i always reset it way before it gets to that, so anyway it was like the moment of truth, is it a 5 digit number or reset back to 0, guess what 5 digit 10000 , so since then on i have always been cautious of the cars actual mileage and add 8000 miles on top for a piece of mind for things like timing belt changes i do bit earlier.
This saturday just gone, at the Heritage meet 2012, i got plasma to do a tech 2 reading on the mileage from ECU and it turned out my doubts are right, it is 8000 miles more on the ecu than the speedo clock. , only took me 4 and a half years to find out.
Apart from the mileage, the car has been running absolutely fine, no engine faults, or anything major. It's a 1.9 150 and have no trouble at all, so i'm lucky in that sense.
Thrust bearing started to play up now and a tiny bit of dmf, from the ecu reading 93,000 miles working out from speedo clock adding 8000 miles on top. So not bad for dmf and thrust bearing started to go.
Now then should i change the speedo mileage to the actual ecu reading and whats the cost of it and where to do it?
