Default Driving me mad - how to remove 12v point

I can't get the front 12v point to unclip so I can remove it - no matter what I do I cannot move the two black clips that hold the thing in place. I've taken the ashtray out etc and I can get the underside of the power point (just about). I can't work out how to undo the clips. I've tried a search on the site but with no joy. Please help.

    1. Remove ashtray
    • Remove ashtray

    2. Remove cigarette lighter
    • Pull out cigarette lighter (heating unit)

    3. Remove cigarette lighter panel
    • Unclip cigarette lighter panel

    4. Detach cigarette lighter housing from illumination ring
    • Disconnect 2x wiring harness plug
Note: Under the cigarette lighter housing, not shown in figure

    • Detach/lever housing/illumination ring

    • Remove cigarette lighter housing

    • Remove illumination ring

Thats the gospel according to VX.....

Have you missed any of those steps out??... The diagrams ( that i can't cut n paste ) show it coming up and out with a small screwdriver being used to lever it up over the 2 plastic spring clips....

    - it's true though!

Exactly as Mark said, and the trick is the little screwdriver to just prise the lug things to release it. I'm sure Dennis the Menace had some pics somewhere on doing this.

it was used under the lip of the lighter, after the top decorative panel and the lighting 'ring' was removed, it was just put in between the socket and the black underpanel to provide some lift.. it's only held in by 2 small plastic prongs..so you shouldn't be having the trouble you are....

the spring cover is on the top plate, the decorative plate, that needs to come off 1st, before you try prising it out...that entire silvergrey panel needs removing in step 3....

you're now tempting me to go outside again aren't you..... time to see what the bind is..

EDIT:Just seen D's post.. so i'll wait a while and see what he post's up....
