Default Egr on 07cdti 150 bhp

Hi all. I know theres lots of threads and such on the egr but i would like some issues clearing up if poss,i keep getting egr code 0400 and have reset it 4times now.i cleaned it up and freed the spring thing inside but never striped it out completely as i have read on a thread on here( drill a 3 mm whole and punch it out thread ) now if i do this and fit a blanking plate too will my old one be ok or should i replace the egr with a new one and fit the plate to keep new egr from failing ? Also where can i get plate and egr from cheapest ? Any other points on the egr to clear it up for a newb would be great, many thanks carl.

Don't replace your EGR - no point really as it will clog up soon enough. Also, no point fixing your EGR and blanking it - do either one or the other (blank in my opinion).
    Options:-
    1) Clean it fully, including punching out the solenoid pin - on the 120 (and presumably 150) EGR, there is an airway around the EGR valve which allows some air through even with the EGR closed - make sure this is clear too. Punching out the solenoid pin is easy on the 120ps EGR, not sure if the 150ps EGR can be done in the same manner. Make sure the intake manifold where the EGR attaches is clear too as you will get an error code the same as if you blank the EGR if the manifold is jammed solid (a really badly clogged EGR/manifold connection is kind of like blanking it!)
    2) Disconnect your EGR (just take the plug out). Car will run fine, but you will get an emissions light, which you could get mapped out.
    3) Blank the EGR entirely - doesn't matter if it functions or not then. You will get the emissions light for this too, which you could also get mapped out.

If your not sure on stripping & cleaning the egr (it also pays to do the boost sensor & throttle body for full effect) then give us a shout, i also have opcom & a spare egr i use for emergency purposes.
