some banks give you rewards for paying monthly like free breakdown cover or free holiday insurance
these accounts are usualy only any good if you regularly go into yoiur overdraught that way you don't get charged
but if you never get overdrawn then just stick to your normal account

They say it's to cover the cost of the service they give you - access to your cash at thousands of ATMs, etc etc etc.

Yes, a very silly money-making practice given the ease with which customers can change to a different bank thesedays. There's enough banks out there happy to have your business, so have a look about for one that offers what you want without a fee.... and move. When NatWest ask why you wish to close your account and you tell them, you may even find they suddenly become helpful.

Sentinel® Card Protection worth up to £20 a year - Help, if your credit, debit or store cards are lost or stolen. One membership covers everyone in your household.

A VISA debit card you can use in over 500,000 places in the UK and 18 million outlets worldwide.

Preferential charges when you make purchases abroad using your Lloyds TSB Premier Visa debit card.
    Preferential share dealing.
24 hour banking with access to PhoneBank® on

Get 3.00% AER variable (2.96% Gross) interest paid monthly for balances from £3,000 up to £5,000 on your Premier Account by adding Vantage to your account.

The top 3 alone would be items I would buy seperately normally and would cost me considerably more than the monthly fee i pay. It says preferential charges using my card abroad, I used mine in France and they didnt charge a usage fee, and the exchange rate i received was several cents to the pound better than buying currency in the uk
