    Default Front wheel movement

There is play in both front wheels when moved side to side, no play when held top and bottom. This is with wheels off the floor. Bearings or balljoint?

With worn bearings you usually hear a grumbling noise.

First place to look is the track rod ends.

Could also be wishbone bushes, you'll see better if you turn the steering onto full lock so you can see the track rod end when you wobble the wheel.

I had the same issue as you describe just before my MOT at the end of July. I was worried it would fail, but was pleased (if pleased is the right word!) with just an advisory that there was minor play in the track rod ends, which i was originally advised about at the cars 1st MOT back in 2007! Those were the only advisories i have had for that problem in 6 MOT's.
