Default 2.0 DTi - Vibrating Auxiliary belt after changing.

    Evening.

Hoping someone might be able to help.

I recently changed the bottom pulley on my 52 plate 2.0 DTi as it decided to break into two!

After wasting a lot of time on a VERY tight bottom pulley bolt I've assembled everything back together. However, a couple of seconds after starting up, a vibrating noise has become very obvious. It starts about 4 seconds after initial startup once the engine settles down to idle speed. If I look around the auxiliary belt area, it looks like the problem is that the belt damper / tensioner is vibrating a lot and not really doing it's job. Could I have put something back together wrong or could it be a faulty damper? There is still a lot of tension in the spring loaded damper as it was a bit of a task to get the belt back on!

As the belt had come off when the bottom pulley went, I didn't have to undo anything to get the belt off, so all I did when I refitted it, was to pop a ratchet onto the nut move the tensioner in the way of the damper to give me slack space to put the belt on. Once the belt was on, I just took off the ratchet. Is there anything else to tighten up?

    Thanks anyone for help.

    Default

Was it a genuine pulley (and bolt) you fitted? Some of the aftermarket ones are the wrong weight and/or not balanced so cause more vibrations instead of damping existing ones out.
