    Default DMF rattle

    Hi all
I posted a couple of weeks ago that my dmf was rattling. It is only a slight one and stops when the clutch pedal is fully depressed. Does anyone know how long it takes for it to go completely? I realise it depends on how you drive and mileage etc but I know you guys will have a good idea. I'm asking because I need to get the money together and it ain't cheap!
    Thanks everyone

Not sure on the timescale mate but some guys on here have reported driving fir 10k plus with q rattling dmf. Obviously it's a chance you take, it may fail in 2 miles time and cause further damage. It's one of those "how long is a piece of string questions". Im no expert but I would say replace it as soon as you can.

The death rattle can be made to last for a very long time according to many who have it some have had it for over 40K miles. The risk and it is a genuine risk, is, that it lets go and takes the gearbox with it.

As was said above changing your driving style can make a huge difference I had a new one fitted 35K ago and set out to make the thing last by gentle rev matched gearshifts and anticipation of harsh throttle etc etc after reading so many horror stories on here.

I drove mine for 24k (1 year!) with a rattling DMF. The garage had a pig of a job to change it as it had spun round and blocked the heads of the bolts (I have no idea, but sounded bad and took them an extra day) - just make sure you get a fixed fee like me!

As people have said, it could last years, or it could go tomorrow. Same as a cam belt, people have driven for miles over the recomended change, but others have gone even when changed on a regualr basis. Just depends if your glass is half full, or half empty?

Does the DMF rattle only when stationary? I only ask as the rattle only appears once the clutch is depressed then through it's range and not when stationary. We are almost a year into a two year warranty so wondering if it could be justified as a failed part and be replaced. The engine (1.9 cdti '57) has only done 40K.

    Cheers
