    Default Spurious Alarm Soundings

Hi Peeps, just a quick question, has anyone measured the resistance value of the rear side windows that activate the alarm system on estates? We have 2 Vectra Estates in the family and its the newer one that has just started to play up. 2008 SRi 150 Estate. I know I can measure the older car but don't want to disturb wiring on that car & cause a problem on that one. I have measured the newer car @ 55 and 127 ohms so have shorted out the higher reading window & will monitor over the next few days. Also does removing the fuse in the rear fusebox, disable the window breakage sensors? There appears to be F9, F21 & F23 to power the alarm, ultrasonics & window breakage.
    Thanks

It's not clear from your post if you know what the cause is, so in case you don't know, I'll tell you. The wiring to the side rear windows on the estates corrodes through, hence setting off the alarm. You need to remove the interior trim around the windows, find the break in the wire and bridge it.

Thanks for the reply, but if you re-read my initial post you will see that I've measured both rear side windows @ 55 & 127 ohms. I've removed both side panels to access the blade terminals, hence the ohmic values. If there was a definite "break" then I would expect to see an infinite ohmic value. The alarm system appears to tolerate a "short" value as ok when tested. The higher reading of 127 ohms would point to corrosion somewhere in the window loop. All spade terminals look "clean" Further tests over the weekend. Thanks for looking, will keep everyone posted as to my findings for future reference.

Update time, window that read 55 ohms a few days ago has risen to 59 ohms, possibly due to heating effect of the sun?? Other window that read 127 ohms has gone open-circuit, which would point to that one causing spurious trips during the day, thankfully for the neighbours never during the night (cooler?). Short left on the wiring of that window. Panels back on, fingers crossed. Still hopeful of any other members with measured values on their windows.
    Thanks.

You're overthinking this. This "spurious" alarm issue only ever occurs on the estate models, never the hatch, saloon or Signums, and it's always caused by damaged/corroded wiring to the rear side windows. The other bodyshapes don't have such wiring, hence no such issues. Finding a member who has spent time chasing ohms values is like looking for rocking horse poo - you won't find such people because it's not the correct course of action. Do a search on here for the words alarm and estate and you'll get a lot of threads all identifying the same cause.
