    Default 2.2 Direct Tractor!

Just jumped in the car for a quick trip to the shops and when I started it up it sounds like a tractor! Oil was a little low so I topped it up, cant see anything that looks out of place but it sounds horrible. My old BMW diesel sounded better.

Any one have any idea what it could be?

What are the likely bills to put it right? And is there any way of making it less likely to happen again?

well, if vauxhall do it then its a new cam chain, tensioner and i think, balancer shaft, about £900 matey, and, iirc they have changed the tensioner to that of the 2.0 turbo, mine went at 16,000, and 29,000 so including the original one fitted, im on my 3rd at 31,000...

Ouch. I think I will see if I can find an independent garage to do it. Got to be cheaper than VX. I hope.

When my tensioner failed, Vx footed 70% of the repair bill.

Balancer chain rarely goes. Shouldn't need changing.

It's a known issue, and there is a Field Remedy for it. If your car has been regularly serviced and not high mileage, then it might be worth speaking to Vx about it.

Thanks. Average miles for its age and I am the third owner, but I will look into it.

I wouldn't hold out much luck for vx to contribute towards the repair.

If Your reasonably handy on the tools you could change the chain yourself the kits are about £200+vat and take a couple of hours to do.
