    Default Dealer AC problem conclusion

Well,.. the dealer has finally arrived at the following offer on the diagnosis of the AC having a leak. The following is the email from the dealer and the offer that VX have put on the table:

    Afternoon Mr Bingham,
I have been working on the assistance request everyday last week and finally have an final update. The process has taken some time as Iíve been trying to get as much assistance as possible so itís taken quite a lot of info requests to get a final decision. In Summary you have been granted a total of 80% contribution against the warranty claim to replace the condenser. This built up of contribution from Vauxhall and contribution from me and carrying out the re-gas free of charge by us in order to secure that level of contribution. That leaves the amount payable from yourself of £78.72 including VAT.

If you wish to proceed with the repairs if you can drop me a line and I will arrange your booking. The offer is valid for 30days from today after which it expires on the Vauxhall system.

Is this a good deal to get a new condenser fitted of am I better of off at a specialist?

Well if it does indeed need a new condenser (which are rarely fully covered by warranty) then that sounds like a very good deal to me. Some places would charge you nearly that for a re-gas alone.

£125 for the part alone... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-V...item3379e71326 so that price is a very good one.

If you don't want to pay anything, could you leave it a little bit, get a warranty yourself and claim off that, I know the AA 5* one I have covers the condenser in its additional cover.

Car is also covered by Warranty Direct, however the fault was reported to VX well under manufacturers warranty. Think I will test the ground with WD.

actually,.. WD on this car due to mileage cover 50% parts and 100% labour so dealer may be the cheaper route

80% contribution and still £78.72 to pay? They are on about the Condenser, in front of the radiator, and not the evaporator, behind the dash, at that price? The non contribution price must be working out somewhere around £800.........

Nope, warranties are there to fix problems that arise or become apparent after the cover has started. The OP has known about this problem for a very long time and has an offer to fix it. Try explaining that to a warranty company and say to them "I'd just prefer you fix it instead of Vauxhall, because it'll save me £80..."

    works out to around £400. (400 divided by 100 x 20 = £80)
