Default Side skirt removal & refitting

My 55 plate SRi estate has the horrible black plastic side skirts and bumper valance which I'd really quite like to remove and colour code.

How do the skirts come off?

And the bumper valance, too, while I'm asking? The same ppl will probably know the answer to both!

    Thanks

Look under the bottom of the side skirts, you'll see the little plug things that have the centre bit. Push the centre bit up into the plug, it'll just fall into the sill and get caught up in the bodyseal stuff. Then look on either end and you'll see similar ones - do the same. I think there's the odd few that are the style that you prise the top of to then be able to pull them off.

Edit: I think the ones on the underside are the prise off type.

Bumper valance just unclips with a bit of tugging etc.

Oops! Just realised I forgot one important step!!!!

Open the doors and you need to remove the rubber seal strip that runs above the side skirts. Unclip it at one end and then move down the strip. Watch as you come to the rear as there is a little retaining lug/pin going into the body - just need to gently prise it out. Then you'll see some more plug things as before that you need to remove. You might find it easier to remove those first before doing the ones under the skirts in the recesses.

You'll see some very small round headed plugs towards the front, and maybe the rear, on the bottom of the skirt. No need to remove those as they are holding on a piece that is attached to the skirt. It's only the plugs in the recesses that you need to remove (on the underside of the skirt).

Also, it's only the rear end cap (in the rear arch) of the skirt that has anything to remove, nothing on the front.

You'll need to obviously buy a bunch of these plugs for refitting the skirts as you'll have no centre pins anymore. I think the ones on the underside are the prise off ones and can be reused if they aren't too mangled in the taking off.

BTW, in case you were thinking of making any changes. Did you know that the VXR estate side skirts will fit yours, as well as the Signum - that's what I have on mine now.

I did know - just balked at the price TBH!

I suppose for the hassle of removing, priming, painting, lacquering, refitting etc, it might be worth another look....
