    Default revs low in neutral

Not sure if there is already anything on this, had a quick look bt didnt see anything. Basically, i just did the airbox mod (5min job) but cudnt go for a spin cuz kids in bed, missus at work. Anyway, i started it up afyer putting everythin bk tgether an when i revved in neutral, it wudnt go mote than about 2500rpm, even with pedal on the floor. Only had car two weeks (1.9 cdti 2005 sri) so not sure if this is normal. Never revved in neutral b4 so no idea.

didnt think of that , although i didnt un-plug anything anyway. simply unscrewed and lifted lid out of way, removed the bottom 'trumpet' thing, plonked in filter and screwed back down. Also removed the short piece of flexi pipe that attaches to filter box. read others have done it so giving it a try. wont know till morning though. I wasnt sure if the engine should rev through the whole range when in neutral, or it was designed to stay at low rpm for what ever reason.

It should rev freely in neutral - its possible the connector has worked loose seeing as youve had the lid off the airbox - if there are any faults detected its straight to limp mode, which is the 2.5k rev limit you have found. Its a simple fault to check for, just check its secure and check the MAF is on the right way around..... I had a VX tech try and put mine back on the wrong way around a few years back!!

Thanks for all the quick replies guys, but it was me been a plank. Just been out in the dark, luckily i park under a street lamp so could see quite well. I had only forgot to re-connect the flexi hose from the air box. No wonder it went into limp mode
Thanks again for quick responses, will update tomorow if all is ok (should be now)

Simple enough as we said. It should run fine now and rev freely in neutral. Any other issues then post away mate, someone will always help you out.
