    Default Chris Knott Multi-Car Cover

Forum members often ask us about Multi-car cover. The perception is that it works out cheaper to have all your cars on one policy. However, it’s interesting that the TV adverts now include a message that says 'Multi-car policies may not be cheaper than separate policies in all cases’. It seems their real proposition therefore is that you get the simplicity of having all your cars on one certificate with one renewal date - and presumably one large bill ALL AT ONCE (unless you pay extra for the instalment option).

As a comparison, within the last month or so we have quoted a member from another club for all 7 of his cars (some were classics). Admiral wanted £2150 under their multi-car policy. We quoted them individually for a total of £1650 - with one insurer. A saving of £500!!

    Hope this helps.

Funny enough I tried ringing you this morning for a quote on a third car I have just bought and no one would answer the phone - I was fifth in the queue for ages and finally gave up. Just managed to get through to a very polite/helpful lady and after giving all my details to her was told that you couldn't match an earlier quote I have received from Kwik Fit via the Compare the Market website!

I'm really sorry to hear that it took you a while to get through. You must of caught us in a particularly busy period. Is there anyway you could PM me your name and contact details so I can have a look into this and call you back?

I've got two vehicles insured with Churchill both on max no claims discount a 2004 1.9cdti Vectra estate that costs me £180 a year and a 2006 Kia Sedona 2.9 crdi that costs me £210 - I just bought a 52 Corsa Sxi 1.7Dti that I want to keep and Churchill will only insure it at £48 a month short term - been on Compare the Meerkat and that came up with KwikFit at £237 - saw the Chris Knott and thought I would give it a whirl and was told that they couldn't match the Kwikfit quote - even though they were allowing me some NCD on their quote. Looks like Kwikfit at the moment.

I had a multi car with Admiral that was very good for the first year but had gone up by £200 at renewal without any claim being made - queried it and they told me it was an introductory discount in the first year - went on comparethemarket and ended up with Churchill who couldn't be beaten and were even cheaper at renewal time by a few quid. The problem with this 3rd car is that I have to start again from scratch with my no claims as I use mine on the other two cars. I suppose I could Sorn the Vectra and transfer it over to the Corsa but don't really want to.

Just to add to my previous posts re Chris Knott Insurance - I didn't want to come over as negative and fully appreciate that Motor Insurance is a very competitive business. I was hoping that with the association with the Vec C forum that any discounts given would result in a lower premium than the ones quoted by the big companies that quote on the insurance search sites - but this wasn't the case with my quote. What I can say is that the Customer Service they offer is very good and this morning I have had an interesting chat with Mr Paul Canner from CNI who was very open and frank about how insurance quotes are arrived at.
All I can add is that at insurance time it pays to shop around - if you get a quote that is less than your current insurer - contact them and ask them to beat or at least match it - most will to keep your business.
