    Question 2.0 DTI Turbo Whoooosh!

Have a 2.0 DTI which has developed a strange problem. Basically I'm getting a really loud 'whooshing noise' (technical term) which I'm assuming is from the turbo. Initially I thought it was the heater fan gone mad, but realised it must be the turbo, it sounds like the turbo has been moved to somewhere behind the dashboard. Added to this the performance is even flatter than normal and if I accelerate hard it immediately goes into limp home mode at around 3500 rpm. I can't replicate this problem when the car's stationary on the drive. Any ideas please.

Have you checked the inter-cooler pipes, sounds like you have an air leak between the turbo and inlet manifold, the "whooshing" will be air escaping under pressure.

Check the pipes ,sure if you Google a bit you will be able to find the common culprits , normally a single section is the weak point for a particular car.

This would give symptoms of lack of turbo as the pressure will be lower.

ps. don't do as I did and lye under the car while your brother blips the throttle and up with a face blacker than a black board.

As others have said, sounds like a blown boost pipe. Get the car hot and someone to rev it. Rev hard enough you'll see the boost pipes expand showing the rip. Just don't run your hands over them!
