    Default 12" Alpine Sub Buzzing

Just noticed my sub has started to buzz when I turn my lights on. My 2 power cables for the 2 amps are running down the opposite side from my RCA cables so they're well away from each other. When I take the speaker cable out of the sub the buzzing stops, do you think my sub has blown the coils? Oh and my Alpine amp that runs the sub the MRD-M1005 show CUR and flashes too.

    Any ideas what's wrong folks?

Almost definitely the voice coils in the sub gone fella. The amp going into safe mode (flashing CUR) is basically it telling you the sub is trying to draw more current than it can provide. Unplug the sub and get it replaced before you damage the amp too.

Quick test, unplug the speaker wires from the sub (make sure the ends are shorting together) and switch back on, does the amp still give CUR? If it does then the short maybe in the speaker wire or connections in the amp somewhere to the speakers, if it doesn't then it's the sub voice coils

Cheers Ian I'll have a look once my eyes start working from sleep mode lol. I had a feeling the coils might have popped. Are they repairable or is it a new sub?

I'm sure a specialist could repair/replace them but it would probably cost ten times the price of a new one

I've did this test Ian and it shows "CUR" so I guess as you say the short maybe in the speaker wire/connections to the amp then mate??

Only way to test that is to swap out another amp and try it. It's possible there's a short internally in the amp, but less likely.

Edit: ARRRRGHHH, I've just noticed a typo in my previous post and it's rather critical...

Problem solved Ian, the RCA cable for the amp was too close to the POWER cable for it, I hadn't noticed this until I lifted the back seat up again to check these cables. So it's all working again without the HUM. Thanks for the advice mate, appreciated.
