    Default Vectra Model

    Hi all, new here

At the end of this month I'm wanting to buy my very first Vectra to be used as a family car. My question is can i afford a used Vectra with £2000 to spend?

    I don't know which model is the one i want as i have never owned a Vectra before. The only thing i know is i want the model iv seen driving around which is;

    Black
Metallic Silver strips on boot and on side doors
Facelift model - is that 06+?

Other than that i don't mind the engine size or the amount of mileage as long as its been looked after.

So which model's have those features? and can i afford one?

    Thanks everyone

06+ is facelift they all have the chrome on the boot and the sides. I have a nice list to choose from ya can get a 1.8 2.2 petrol quite cheap maybe even a cdti if ya look now the models are

Life = basic of all basics
Exclusive = basic with more features than a life
Sri= sports model sports body kit wheels and interior
Design = few toys half leather
Elite = top of the range full leather etc
Vxr = the mother ship of Vauxhall vectra u won't get one for 2k unless it's been set on fire lol

And then u have a signum aswel

Just to add the exclusive, design, elite have the same front bumper as a Sri

U also have xp and xpii which have Vxr body kit

haha i like the vxr comment

I had an idea the vxr would be beyond my reach. 10 years ago i would kill for a car like that lol but now im becoming a daddy for the first time (shes due october) i want a nice family car with some power under the bonnet if possible. No one wants to chugger along off the line do they I always admired Sri's growing up but didnt think i could afford one? would also be very happy with the elite model.

But with £2000, is it a reasonable amount to buy a car like that used with hopefully less than 100k miles.

With £2k, you'd maybe be better off looking at the Pre-facelift models. I'm sure you could get a facelift for that money but it's likely to have BIG miles on the clock or perhaps other issues.

Do you have a preference towards diesel or petrol? I've just had a quick look on autotrader and you can easily pick up a 2.2DTI with SRI trim (there was even one with full leather) for £2k with 100k on the clock. If you want something that goes like s**t off a shovel, you might manage to get a higher mileage GSI for £2k.

    thanks

I'v looked all over auto trader and places like that, but the best place iv noticed so far is here lol I looked at the for sale section and saw a few adverts i was interested in Here comes the crucial question though lol..... buying from here am i likely to buy an ex street racer car or a looked after family car.

The only problem i have. I wont have £2000 or anything like that amount in the near future with the little bouncing bundle of joy on its way. so i wanted to buy a car as young as possible with the sacrifice of mileage so in 3-4 years it still wont look out of place parked up shopping. I'v drove an older car before lol found it very embarrassing when going to work and parking next to all the cars that were below 7 years old and mine could have been donated to a car museum lol

Not really after speed to be honest just a little under. Like my dad's old 02 focus ghia 2.0 that is only around the 110bhp mark i believe and against real 2.0 it would get slaughtered but off the line from a red light or on the motorway its perfectly fine for building up speed compared to obviously things like your run of the mill 1.6 and 1.8's

I was in exactly the same boat as you around 18 months ago, albeit with a bit more to spend.

I ended up with a Vectra 1.8 SRi VVT and touch wood it has served me well.

My advice to you is to go for a 1.8 petrol as you won't want to be hammering it around with a little one in, and the 1.8 is more than happy pottering around town or cruising on the motorway. It will also cost you less than a diesel to buy in the first place.

If you can try and buy from a garage, then at least you could maybe get some sort of warranty which will give you peace of mind at an important time of life.

Also, any car that you buy from the forum won't have been boy racered. It may have had a good blast out every now and then, but I believe it does them good to blow the cobwebs out anyway!
