    Default MOT help?

    hi all
was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this?
im looking to buy a new second hand car, i went onto direct.gov and done a mileage/mot history check. on 06/02/10 it passed mot for 12 months at 76,262 Miles but then on 30/03/10 it went in for another mot at 76,711 Miles failed on headlight beam alignment and then they must of sorted that and it passed the same day.
why would you get a mot a month later when you have a 12 month ticket?
    many thanks

Could have been through a dealer for sale and they put a fresh 12 months on it I would be more worried if the service history and the MOT mileages didn't turn up. I think M8internet does an MOT every 6 months which is what we do at work for our pool vehicles for airside safety requirements, even new ones. See if you can look at the sales history.

Car sold by a dealer with 12 Months MOT is the only thing I can think of. If you look at it its actually nearer 2 months between test. Retest date just in time for a 1st of the month road tax too.

taxis have a mot every 6 months so its not that and as of the dealer puting a new mot when its got 11 months is pants they normaly only do that if its less than 6 months left now here is my take on it its been a ins loss as by law depending what cat it is it must pass a vic check and pass a new mot, the only outher thing i can think off is its been clocked and its been found out but it wouldnt have been worth the agro with such a small miles diff

we had a vectra come into our place for a test in april one year , then again in the may ( iirc it was 29 days apart ) the reason for this was that I had tested the car for a trader , it had originally failed on a couple of tyres , bulbs etc .
the car came back for retest & was fine , passed its test & was then sold .
the same car was brought in for test by another garage 29 days later , I tested it then & it failed emissions , failed on washers ( empty ) couple of bulbs not working & a tyre below the limit .
the lad from the other garage collected the car & took it away , 10 minutes later we had couple of poles in reception going mad about dodgy tests & trying to say we had done a dodgy test for the trader , turns out they had done approx 2500 miles in that car & were trying to screw a few quid out of the trader , so they had took it to another garage hoping for a fail so they could try & get a few quid back .
seems they were not best happy when this other garage had no tester at the time so were sending their tests to us .
I / we had done nothing wrong so offered them a VT17 appeal form , we also spoke to the local VOSA vehicle examiner & were informed that this was a scam operating in the local area where poles were buying cars from traders & trying to scam some money back by trying to imply the test was dodgy & scare the garage or trader into giving them money to make it all go away .

As above, look at the owners history
You may find the next owner bought the car at the end of March 2010, then took the car for a MoT
This is quite common where the owner does not have vehicle mechanical experience, and is cheaper than an independent inspection
