Default My tale of Woe..Or EGR issues if you prefer!

Have a 54 plate Cdti 150. Was a little lumpy on tick over so i thought i would give the EGR a good clean after reading posts here.

Took the EGR off and to be honest it wasn't too bad. Put it back with the Fiat gaskets. Also took the opportunity to clean the boost sensor, and spray carb cleaner in through the intake and throttle body..

Whilst doing this i saw the swirl bar had come off so cleaned it, made sure the valves were moving freely and then reattached.

Oh how i wished i had left well alone.

On start up the car pulls like a train, then after about a mile the spanner light comes on and i lose all power. It wont accelerate properly and will not rev over 3000 at all. It isn't missing or juddering, just no power... I have tried taking the egr plug off but this makes no difference at all.

Have had a look at the boost valves and they don't seem perished at all. The swirl valves were all in the open position though before i reattached, and i have checked and they are all working fine when the engine is revved.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance, Steve

hi mate. maybe just maybe one of your swirl flaps is jamming and stopping the actuator motor from opening no 3 therefore picking up a malfunction signal sending it into limp mode. try taking bar back off n driving it again to see if it happens again. if it dont you will be better off bonding 1,2,4 flaps at 10'clock position open as per the how2 hth

    Thanks for the pointers guys..

Checked the swirl flaps and all seem to be opening ok, although i am not sure exactly how far round they should go, bit nothing seems to be sticking!

However i think i may have found the problem. Thsi time i actually took off the boost pipes abnd yes, there was a small split in one that couldnt be seen unless removed. Bouvght some vacuum pipe from my local motor factors for a quid and it seems to have sorted it.

However the pick up still is a bit lack lustre until about 2000 revs then it goes like a scalded cat. Do you think i should put the Fiat gaskets back on or would just unplugging it give me the same effect (just want to see if it makes any difference or not).

Or should i not tempt fate and leave well alone!

Still got the original No3 lead on so i will order the part from Vaux when i get paid as it seems the majority in here seem to think its worth doing....

hi i have a 1.9 cdti 120 Vectra, i to am having all the same trouble, i have cleaned the the throttle housing, resoldered the conections, replaced the vac hoses and the main hose to the throttle housing, removed the MAS sensor and cleaned, blanked and un blanked the EGR, replecaed the throttle sensor ( pedal unit ) and still no joy.

the engine goes into limp mode after about a minute or so when running, it also goes into limp mode after about the same time on idle, no reving for the same time.

the engine will only rev up to approx 3000 rpm.

before i go and hack into the 3rd injector loom, is there anything else i should be checking.

i have ( hopefully ) attached some photos indicating what i have done, i hope this may help others herevectra c hoses changed.jpg vectra c parts cleaned.jpgvectra c throttle body conectors.jpg

thank you for any help advice in advance

As the car(s) is throwing up a fault light, why not get the fault read first before removing and replacing bits?

with my fault, it was throttle positioning sensor, so i got another pedal ( from ebay ) but this did not seem to cure the problem, but what i dont understand is if it is the throttle pedal sensor why it would go into limp mode with out it used after initial start up on idle?

but the observation is noted and would be the way to start.

when ingnition is on i get spanner through car and anvil, when car is started spanner in car has gone but anvil is still there.

Have a look at this thread.....

I had the same symptoms as you describe, but cleaned the fiddly little filter thats attached to this and it pulls like a train from very low down now..... You've covered just about everything else you can do - apart from perhaps the throttle body clean. Fingers crossed!!
