    Default Is it possible

    Hi All

    I have had a bit of a run of bad luck with my 2.2dti. I had topped the oil up and forgot to put the filler cap on, car had been driven about 80 miles, popped bonnet when i heard a tippety tappety noise,oil every where! Topped it up, noise didnt go, took it to the garage, they flushed out the lifters, did oil change etc. Took it to work and it cut out dropping into second gear to slow down. Wont start, crank turns but theres a nasty clank as it tries to turn over. With the garage again to be investigated.

    If my engine is shot, what i am wanting to know is ..... is it possible to instead of putting a 2.2dti engine back in, to put a 1.9cdti 150 engine in its place?

    Based on what i have described above if anyone could offer some insight to a potential fault too would be appreciated.

    to change for a cdti would involve a fair bit of work , including programming ecu's etc .

    easy job to swap engine try buy and engine with all the electrics and eus
    Vectra vxr custome remaps egr deletes dpf and diagnostic work all remaps are custome bench tuning avalible all genuine equipment PM for info

    Thanks for the replies guys.

    So if i get what you said, as long as i get an engine which has the ECU then i should be able to swap ok? Would anything else need changed? I have the old half canbus system is it?

    Any one know? I am hoping the garage will call me tomorrow with the diagnosis of what is wrong, would like to be in a better position regarding this if possible

    You'd be better to just buy a 1.9 cdti 150.

    If you really wanted to do a conversion you would be best off buying a smashed complete car for the parts.

    Well folks, i got the news from the garage, they took the head off and the damage is too extensive to make a repair an econimically viable choice. So I guess its a new engine

    So The help i need is what is actually required for the swap? I am guessing engine, EGR, Turbo, ECU, what about fuel pump? Does the intercooler still work etc?

    I am calling the garage back at around 3 today so if anyone is around who has the required knowledge, would really appreciate any help you can give

    I know i could just buy a 1.9 cdti 150, only problem is I dont have the spare cash to buy one outright, and i would then have 2 vectra's, one without a working engine :s Which is why i was wondering if it could be "upgraded" in my current car.

    You would be cheaper getting a low mileage 2.2 engine ! Surely if you did decide to change to cdti you would need new gearbox, engine all wiring and extensive tech2 sessions to code everything to new ecu

    Low mileage units on eBay for around £ 300-£400 easiest option on pocket imho

    What is the damage cracked head & bent valves or bent con rods?

    Another engine same as less head ache straight swap or new heads.
