    Default Water temp gauge

Hi everybody, needing some help with my newly aquired 07 1.8 vectra sri with the Z18XER engine.
Just after I got the car I noticed that the temp gauge was not going up at all - does move 1 - 2mm when ignition is switched on ! I have renewed the Temp. gauge sender unit - from Vx dealers and last night I installed the new thermostat with housing - all to no avail.
Anyone had this problem or have any ideas as to what next ?
    Thanks.

I wouldn't expect it to move until about 10 to 15 minutes after the engine has been running
It certainly should not move straight after starting the engine from cold

I would be more concerned if the temperature gauge moves a lot
Typically, this is a normal reading once the engine is warm, then dropping to cold after a long drive (whilst the engine is still warm)

This is one of the traits of modern engines, some don't even have a temperature gauge and simply have a warning light
However, most diesel engines still have a temperature gauge as it is very important (to prevent damage by overheating)

Thanks for the reply but this is after 15 - 20 mins driving - no movement at all. The slight 1 - 2mm movement is just with the ignition - hot or cold engine.

This sounds correct, as any inducted voltage / current will cause movement in most gauges

i replaced my thermostat at 53000 miles

i have the 1.8 it takes around 3 miles to get to 86-90

say with the outside temperature at 11 degress

sometimes it goes to 92 and when the fan cuts in it goes back to 86-90

if it is reading between 70-75 after 20 minutes its broke

You can use the secret menu on the HU to see if there is any temp reading at all. Then if there is it might mean the dash temp dial is faulty

Cannot remember which button to press on the HU to bring up the service menu, doh

The thermostat for your engine only comes complete and should cost about 100 pounds as it has an electrically controlled valve incorporated
