Default Steering warning light with exclamation mark

Hi Guys, been a member for a while but this is my first post. Thought this info may be of use to someone

I had the steering wheel with exclamation warning light on my dash. Steering was working fine. My car is a 2005 1.9cdti SRI 120. I read the codes with something I bought from the bay and found the following code present:

C1531 - Steering Angle Sensor System Voltage Circuit High Current

To cut a long story short, there is a sensor on the bottom of the column where it meets the rack. The electrical connection on this sensor had worked loose. Cleaned it and pushed it back on and warning light is now gone out.

Lesson learnt is it is not always the cim that is at fault.

Cost of repair = £18 for the code reader

If you follow the rack in from the drivers side wheel arch, it is a couple of inches up on the column pointing directly towards the wheel arch
