Can someone list the pros and cons of both remapping and adding a tuning box (dtuk). Many thanks

U will hear horror stories but a lot have no problems atall I've got a tuning box and I love it so far nothing going wrong no nasty noises ect just more smoke when I plant it lol
I could show you horro stories fixing a vag that had a tuning box on it and boom it's in bits at mine there is no cons to a remap Mate get a good map On it you won't need a box that tricks the fuel pressure
Pros an cons to each mate.
Horror stories from either you'll always find the box haters/ lovers.
A generic map is exactly same as a tuning box basically tricking ecu into increasing fuel pressure/quantity
A custom map is only a good as the person programming.
I ran a dtuk green an crdt for 2 years and had no problems at all. A nice easy cheap increase to 200bhp
Hi
Most of the above is correct and I value paulvectrac comments as like me he works in the industry.
A custom map from a reliable supplier is the best way to go, no 2 engines are the same and a custom map on a rolling road is fantastic as it allows us to fine tune the delivery, too many tuners go for absolute power instead of optimising the drive ability, I have had many VW PD engines in after customers moaned about their previous re maps, PD130 engines giving 205BHP and 320f/lbs, I spent 2 hours on the car, optimised the target areas and told the customer he now had 190BHP and 280f/lbs, after he went red and tried to kill me he went for a test drive, he arrived back beaming, offered me beers and a bonus and said the car was awesome, half the smoke, far more traction no clutch slip (standard clutch 300f/lbs) and a far stronger mid range and smoother delivery.
Don`t always go for maximum power, try and keep the increases within the cars realistic boundary's, it will be far quicker DUE to being able to use the power gains more often for longer periods of time, also spiky power delivery will not help the DMF
THE CDTI apart from the well documented issues is a fantastic engine, very strong with a good standard power delivery which is an excellent starting point.

I've not yet tried a map but I have run a DTUK Red box and tbh I didn't like it. Don't get me wrong, even set at 1/2, the power and torque were absolutely amazing and I spent most of my days grinning from ear to ear BUT is screwed up cruise control (felt like the accelerator was being constantly pumped) and even on set to 1/2 the car smoked like anything! Add to that the almost 100% rise in my insurance premium and you can see why I didn't like it.
I would be interested to see how a remap affects the above issues (ie; smoke and cruise control) but for now I don't think I'd risk it.
I'm on my second remap from MAS Performance, first was done offsite, cracking job with improved power right through the range and set to just short of 190bhp. Second one was done on the rolling road, and as said above by tatters40, a much refined job, car smokes far less than the offsite map. No issues with either.
