I had one of these in my car, took it out about a month ago.

Decided to open it the other day just to see what was inside it. I'd seen 'boxes' before that were just empty.

There is a circuit board in there, and on that a small microprocessor, i didnt get the serial number off the uC. The board itself looks like it could be a dev board, it has lots of unused breakout pads, one of which looks like a 9pin d-type serial connection.

My theory could be that it is simply manipulating the fuel pressure sensor data, i.e. telling the ECU there is less pressure on the rail than there is, this would cause a higher fuel pressure resulting in more fuel being injected in the same duration.

Another theory on what it does is it receives the signal to open an injector and passes it on through, and when it receives the signal to close an injector it adds in a delay then sends the signal on. This would cause a longer injection pulse, more fuel. I think this would need more than the three wires that the box has (unless its on a data bus of some kind).

I was thinking about playing with it more but I don't have much time. If i do find out any more i'll try to remember to post here!

I believe this is the case with most plugin mod kits, hence why your MPG will be out as the car expects less fuel to be going in the cylinder than there actually is.
