    Default home tuning

mate at work has been messing with the mapping on his bugeye suburu. downloaded free software from the net onto a laptop and got an obd cable for 6 quid. he has had a group 'n' rally map installed for a few days( lots of popping and backfiring). currently has launch control running and has been changing all sorts of parameters, and currently running (estimated) in excess of 300bhp. anyone on here tried doing it themselves?
if i didnt have a new insignia and was running something out of warrenty, i'd be interested in trying it myself.

I think we all would be interested. But how do you know what your downloading is a good trusted map? That would be my worry, that and knackering my ECU

It's not something to be do doing unless you fully understand how the ecu reacts to certain conditions sensors etc

Because as much as it sounds cool you can give yourself some serious problems.

And if your just down loading a generic map an plugging it in how do you know it's ok? As above could be very costly for new ecu

Only the group n was generic. He's sussed out what's what and has fiddled with parameters and learnt along the way. Only made slight changes, nothing .

I did too.......well kinda, Paul's is my second home. Lol

Think I would be keeping away from messing with the ECU if I'd not done one before, especially my own.
