My car passed its MOT with 4300K hids fitted (in projectors), the MOT chap said as-long as its not a silly colour and is aligned correctly its fine by him.

There's too much scare-mongering with HIDs and MOT's - just keep the colour sensible (and not fitted in reflectors) and you'll be fine.

I got a 50w (4300k) kit from Hids direct although I haven't had an MOT since fitting them

It would take 10 mins to replace the original bulbs for the MOT if needed, then revert them back to hids after I have the certificate in my hand.

The 50w 4300k kit is superb massive improvement on standard lights, just make sure you park the car in front of a wall and mark the original headlight beam so you can compare after and adjust if needed.

As above, Mine has the 35w 6K HID's, hint of blue. had MOT at the end of may, passed no probs. Beam pattern is correct and it makes no difference that you dont have self level and washers, though if they are fitted they must work for MOT.

Nope. Mine passed it's 3rd MOT at the end of June with 6K 35W HIDs fitted.

Prior to the test I asked the tester about them. He said as long as the beam pattern and height settings were ok then he couldn't fail it. If they did fail, then he would have told me to go away and fit halogens, then bring it back and wouldn't charge any extra to retest.

Got my hid kit today and went to work straight away, had them fitted in about 30 mins. Waited till it was dark and took the old smoker out for a rip down he lanes, the hids look the nuts, very pleased with the colour, went for 5000k with the 55w pro kit. Great coverage, chuffed to bits, other that the engine management light came on twice, but after stopping to get a kebab the light stayed off

I did an amount of digging around and found a gvmt. pdf about the 2012 updates to the MOT. I would post the text, but im on my mobile and its a pdf.

I appreciate that people have had tests pass and i hope this continues.

So here is the fact from the pdf.

It states that an aftermarket kit is reasonably expected to have the same systems provided at manufacture to meet type vehicle licensing. So therefore passing is coming down to reasonable people at the moment but just because one person does it will not be a reason to expect every tester to do so.
