    Default Performance Issues

    Hi everyone,

This is my first post but have been looking about on the forum for sometime now and find everyone very helpful - so hopefully someone can help me as I'm struggling here.

I bought a 54 Vectra CDTi (Z19DT engine) over a year ago. After owning it for around two months the turbo popped on me while en route home from work. Turns out the thing hadn't been serviced for a while even though the previous owner said it had just been done. Silly me for not checking.

Anyway, when the turbo went oil came out through the exhaust and it also knackered the intercooler. The car sat for months as it's a second car however I just had the turbo and intercooler replaced but was told the exhaust will be fine after some long drives. All pipes were checked and no issues or leaks.

I went to pick the car up from the garage but performance was terrible. Engine pulls, you can hear the turbo spool up but just doesn't seem to kick in. If I keep my foot to the floor it struggles to get past 3000RPM and then goes into Limp Mode. Although if I roll along in second gear, dump the clutch then give it a good rev, re-engage the clutch it takes off like it should. Did a bit of research and decided to clean the EGR, boost sensor and throttle body. All were coated with soot but after a good clean came out looking like new. The EGR moved freely and did not stick at all. The car doesn't misfire, idle is fine, doesn't seem to judder and there is no excess amount of smoke from the exhaust.

I thought it might be the DPF at fault but the door pillar badge says 1.30 which - from my research suggests - I don't have a DPF even though when I look under the car there appears to something that looks exactly like a DPF. This bit confused me.

Any help at all would be appreciated as I'm out of ideas.

    Cheers in advance

Is it an estate? Dpf will have a sensor bolted into it and 2 small pipes on top so you will see them and know straight away! The sensor is a 17mm nut I believe. Have u read codes? And any warning lights?

    Hi Steve,

Not an estate, it's a Hatchback.

I'll have a look-see and let you know. From what I've seen on line it's the same size as a DPF but not sure about the sensor or piping.

The spanner light was only coming on when it went into limp mode. I could get it in somewhere and see if there is any codes not showing up?

OK sorry for the delayed response. I've not had much free time lately.

Had someone check the car with a fault reader, code is P0400 EGR Valve Flow malfunction.

As I've said before, I've cleaned the EGR a couple of times but never drilled out the components on the solenoid side although it seems to move freely when pressed. Would cleaning that side and greasing everything up make a different or should I just replace it?
