    Talking The Vectra Lives Again!!!

Well i've got the car back!

Had a 2nd hand gear box, clutch, and flywheel fitted from a 2003 dti with 68000 on the clock (clutch looked nearly new).

Car runs and sounds better than it ever has done.

Turns out my gearbox had sprung a leak (although i never saw any oil patches) and had NO oil in it. This in turn made the gearbox start to seize, thus destorying my clutch and flywheel.

The clutch was as smooth as sheet metal and wafer thin, and the flywheel had about 1.5 inches of movement in it. Mechanic wondered how the hell the car was still working!

Anyhow, I've seen the parts and seen how bad they were to make sure I wasnt being ripped off.

£440 all in including gearbox oil and new driveshaft seals.

    Happy me!

    Cheers

    Russ

Best tHing is mate, they sourced a second hand one and drove a 30 mile round trip to pick it up. Quality service and quality work.

    Glad you’ve got it sorted!

Did you go back to the person who replaced your passengers side inner driveshaft boot?

The easiest way (and way most professionals will do it) is to remove the inner joint from the gearbox. Your gearbox oil will drain out if this is not plugged sufficiently. It is way too much of a coincidence that you have had the passenger boot replaced, and then you have all these problems only to be told your gearbox oil has run dry.

It is very unlikely your gearbox developed a leak that would mean it would drop all of its oil, unless someone drilled a whole in the pan!
