Default The Good Old Days ( Long Gone ) L.O.L.

    I'm a Newcastle United fan ,

but i've just seen this photograph below while watching Minder on I.T.V. 4 .

and it made me laugh , compared to todays prices .

Terry comes out of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and the prices are above all the entry doors .

    Check out the prices ,

At those prices you probably couldn't afford one single players week wage these day === L.O.L.

The series of "Minder" started in late 1979.
But it just goes to show just how much we're being ripped off nowadays. I know earnings were less, but at least things were affordable.

If tickets were £ 2 back then , i wonder what wages the players were on .

Would they just have an Escort XR3i or a Sierra XR4i back then ,

not like these players today with a fleet of Astons , Lambo's , Bentleys and Range Rovers .

I wonder if before multi million pound sponsor deals became the norm , if footballers actually earned their money back then because it was more about the game .

Now it seems football comes second because outside deals are more lucrative .

In this day and age of players being paid thousands and thousands per week ,

What would happen to the players attitude , if team managers acted like shop managers .

I.E. = If you are not performing well , you get the boot ( no pun intended ) or a lower position or wages reduction .

Do you think that would motivate players minds on the field ?

Well... I've never actually been a football fan (which is probably heresy in some peoples minds), but I can well remember people like Stanley Mathews when I was a kid. A brilliant player by all accounts but he never earned a fortune. He probably earned what was quite a decent wage in his day, but not the ludicrous amounts earned by todays players. Personally I think that capitalism and big business have taken over, and that the only motive is profit. The game (sport in general really) is a lowly second, in fact it hardly counts at all. You can probably see a better game of football by going to the local park on a Sunday morning!

I know I'm coming across like a real moaning old git but it does seem like it's true. We need to change things for the better!

There is practically no sport as we knew it these days, it is all big business more is the pity. At least Stanley Mathews, John and Bob Charles, Denis Law, Billy Bremner, Nobby Styles, Bobby Moore, and all the others of that era did play for the love of the game and the jersey. Ok the money was nice even though they would never be millionaires by todays standards. A lot of the modern players could not even say "Loyalty" never mind know what it means.
