That's shocking, hope he gets sorted and takes them to the cleaners. Makse me glad that here, only MOT centers carrys out MOTs and it's not any old garage that does them.

I was speaking to my boss (An MOT inspector) about this today.

Once you hand over the keys to the MOT station its there duty of care. If they then crash the car or damage it but wont fix it or pay out for the car the owner of the car can speak to VOSA who will investigate and by the sounds of this case come out on the cars owner side.

Surely if a road test is not part of the MOT and the owner was not asked specifically to take it on the road - they have taken the car without the owners consent and the Police should be looking at it - I think VOSA will be interested in this one and hopefully will be putting pressure on the garage to get it sorted. I think i would be approaching the local press with before and after pics - sue=re it would make a nice little story!

The only reason the car should be road tested is if its had repairs and the car was a straight pass so there was no reason for the car to be driven only because it's got a red top in it and they want to see what it's like on the road.
If it was me I think I'd be on to the local papers and try and get a big front page article there's nothing like bad press.

One of the garages I used to work for one of the guys took out a customers car (car was with us for 3 months waiting for parts) after repairing it and within 100yds of our dealership some doddery old bloke T boned it writing it off, the customer was fine as we contacted him immediately and he was more concerned abou the bloke driving
