    Default Computer help needed

    Hi

Need some help with regards to my xp pro system.

Yesterday i installed pc tools registry mechanic and let it do a scan as i was having a couple of small issues. said it found some issues in the registry so i allowed it to fix them.

Today it is goosed. Boots to desktop and the task bar wont load nor will any icons i click on, just says i may not have permission etc.

tried to access system restore through cmd promt, says the same.

So i tried to repair via the recovery console and when i type in the first command as instructed from here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545, just says access denied.

so tried to enable the set command option by doing the following

    SET AllowWildCards = TRUE
    SET AllowAllPaths = TRUE
    SET AllowRemovableMedia
    = TRUE

Says the same again, access denied. After doing a bit of reading it says i have to enable withing windows. But i can access anything via windows.

Can some body please help as i have a lot of important stuff on the computer and i cant access anything

    cheers

Are you sure it was a genuine and safe registry repair tool, and not a scam version that's designed to break your PC?

when loaded up in safe mode odds on you will be seeing nothing no icons no task bar at the bottom.
try getting task manager up by pressing all at the same time ctrl, shift, esc
if it comes up click the file tab, then go to new task (run),
from their you can type explorer.exe and hit enter. This should bring everything back up so you can get to add and remove and remove the program you installed.
if this doesn't do anything then you need to get rid of everything off your startup menu
try the same to get task manager up,new task, and type in msconfig, if a new window comes up with the title of system configuration then click the start up tab and unclick everything save and restart in normal mode it should be back to normal, then go to add and remove and remove the program you installed. then you need to go back in to system configuration and re tick all programs needed IE drivers.#
if none of the above works then it would be easier to reload it
(had a good few JD and cokes so sorry if it doesn't make sense lol just email me will answer when im sober)

also none of the command prompt would of worked as odds on you will not be logged on as the administrator

    Hi Mate

Do you have an external usb Hard disk drive. If so I can send you a bart pe cd with some tools on it to enable you to backup your data onto the external drive.

You can then wipe and resetup windows cleanly and then put your data back on.

PM if you are interested. I can supply an external HDD too if you dont have one.

    Cheers

As above try safe mode boot up and THEN system restore to prior to the software install ...hopefully then this will allow you to get back to where you were
