Default Rear tyre- inside edge is stepped and uneven?

The tread on the rear of my bridgestone tyre has become stepped and lumpy?? What is the cause for this? Faulty shocks?
They started to drone so went to change them to the front and noticed it. Pics wouldn't show it clearly but as you run your hand over it you can feel the steps?

How long have those rear tyres been on the rear?
Scalloping, as it is known, is almost always due to a failed shock absorber but you should be able to notice this before the tyre wear appears
It should start as a banging noise coming from the rear of the car
Once the shock itself fails a collection of liquid should be clearly visible at the base and may even drip on to the road surface (noticeable when leaving the car for several hours)
You should also be able confirm which side by lifting the rear of the car at the wheel arch, which will result in a squeeking noise

Not noticed any liquid, banging or squeezing? Plus car has only done 27k and been in for a service. Surprise they didn't noticed the tyre. They only noted it was more warn in inside edge.

Will try have a better look at the shock Tomoz then for evidence of leaking under the shock cover

Tyres doesn't look original as the other side has a lot less tread. Guessing it's done 10k?

4 years / 27K miles, and a failed rear suspension component
    Quite shockingly poor really
Equally, as the car is under 6 years old (assuming you purchased the car in England or Wales, otherwise 5 years) you have a good case for these failed parts to be replaced at VX expense

The service simply reports on observations, not the cause unless obvious

If your car is under warranty, then report the matter further
If not, then have the entire rear suspension fully examined
On completion have the full four wheel alignment carried out *Hunters equipment

Its getting more common, I first noticed a lot of Pirelli tyres doing (I work for a Volvo specialist and a lot come with Pirelli as standard) only on the rear of cars, initially after noticing it on more and more cars we thought it was down to the actual tyre distorting but were finding a lot more brands of tyres doing it, we've never (as a company) really looked into the reason why so many tyres are doing it but personally I think it's down to speed bumps, not all of them only the individual lane ones, as they tend to be just too wide to drive over them without touching the wheels on the edges and I thing the angles it's pushing the tyres I think is causing rear bushes to stretch/distort causing the rear alignment to get thrown out far to easily

As discussed previously, I set one set of my Good Year tyres away for inspection, and their report came back advising it was due to factory settings of the camber which they had found to be incorrect and duly reported to VX
This suggested the Vectra C with Sports Suspension (to UK specification) were leaving the factory with the standard settings (for EU specification)

Since I had mine adjusted (to UK specification) I did not have any issue with an identical set of tyres and no adjustment has been necessary for nearly four years now
