Default olympic ceremony - £27 million?

    27million absurd amount of money.
not interested in the show, but yawned through 10 minutes to see what my money is being spent on; appeared to be about a grands worth to me, maybe a bit more for electricity bill

    pantomime waste of taxpayer funds.

the whole thing is beneficial to the economy apparently, but this opening thing is a senseless waste.

Yet still you watched it........ and most likely, like me, still are. I do, however, slightly agree. But as that old saying goes, "to make money, first you have to spend money" Hundreds of thousands of visitors will come, and on the back of it and spend millions of Pounds, Many Companies will come and thousands of deals brokered on the back of the Olympics. I dunno, maybe its what this country needs.

The Opening Ceremony has actually cost £81m (source LOCOG office just one hour ago)
The Guardian don't advise where they got their figure of £27m from, but I suspect it was the National Audit Office so would be the last budget as at May 2012)

Personally, well worth it to showcase Britain and promote Britain

was taking the p*** a bit, with not much idea of what it costs to put on a show, but: -
are we saying that the budget increased by 55 million within 2 months?? haha can't believe that. must be a rational reason for that large difference in figures which i won't speculate about.
if that was 81 million quids worth of show, there is no justification for it. scandalous waste.

Yes, that was the total cost, not the cost to the tax payer
The cost to the tax payer won't be known until September 2012

World wide reviews seemed to be surprisingly favourable, and yes some countries did seem to understand some of the rather unique elements (for example Mr Bean)

However, North Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea PRK) made a demonstration which I understand the BBC very quickly skipped over during the country athletes introduction
None of the athletes appeared, only the nine representatives with an even larger flag carried by the other eight

What promotes Britain best anyway is music. And a lot of other things btw. ^^
