    Default K & N Filter Benefits?

Any major/minor benefits of fitting a K & N filter on a 2.2 SRi petrol anyone please? Just wondered. Heard about them but it always seems to be the same, some say great, some say ok & some say, waste of time. Also what sort of price for one? Cheers lads, oh and before i forget, A Very Merry Xmas & A Happy New Year to each and every one of you!

If you really want one mate get the K&N panel filter mate, the 57i kit doesn't seem to work that well with the vec VX engines. And a merry Xmas to you as well.

Cheers Rushy. Major benefits if any? For what i've seen of those panel filters on E-Bay they're certainly not cheap, well for what they are anyway!

The panel filter will only allow cold air (denser) into the engine from the front grill. The 57i, pipercross and the rest of the mushroom type filters sound good but soak up to much hot air from the engine (less dense) so any gains are wiped out by the hot air. I had the pipercross cone filter on my pug but ended up taking it off cos the noise really got on my tits. Its really up to you mate, just as many people will tell you to go with the K&N as there will be to tell you to stick with a good clean stock item.

I remember from a thread a while back....

You might get an extra couple of BHP with the K&N panel filter fitted, but as it lets more air through, it filters 10 times LESS crud out of the air than the Vx paper filter, which means 10 times MORE likely to damage the very expensive MAF sensor immediately behind it.

I'll be sticking with a clean Vx paper one....

K&N do flow a lot of air but they clog up very quickly and need to be cleaned every 4-5k miles and if you over oil them they can damage AFM/MAFs. not worth it
