    Default CDTI Turbo whistle

    How many of you guys have the whistle sound coming from your turbo ?

    I sold a fault code reader to a young mechanic yesterday and he was saying that the bearings in my turbo where going and that was causing the whistling sound but that sound has been there for nearly two years and i have heard many other vectras and Saab 93 sound the exact same . My old mondeo had a whistle to and it is still flying with the same turbo. . The car is remapped to 150bhp from 120 pulls like a train no smoke running perfect but i do notice when i drive it hard i get what sounds like a dump-valve or an air release when changing gears that only happens when i boot it in low gears. I am a bit paranoid now about the whistle but the guy didn't even open the bonnet to check just said bearings i asked did he work on a cdti vectra he said no . when i went home and revved the engine the sound was coming from the turbo area.

    To me the whistling is the norm for the vectra CDTI engine my turbo was also replaced at 79000miles so it says in the service book. personally i Don't think there is a problem with the car it is just that fiat multijet engine tone. the young mechanic just got me wondering.

    mine whistles , more so when it is cold , but not had any problems with it .

    It's normal I think, my whistle is quite loud, louder after the remap. I wouldn't worry mate.

    Same boat - mine's quite noticable, still running at 120 and only time I noticed a (slight) difference was when I did the airbox mod. I like the noise

    I thought the whistle was a characteristic of the Turbo. I'm not familiar with exactyl what a turbo does but I though the whistle was a build up of pressure then the release when you change gear is because you usually drop down revs after a gear change so the turbo resets and starts it's build up again. I think the whistle is a bit off putting on smaller turbo like our's but when you hear it on a larger turbo or performance car then it's the bit most people like. I though ours was just whimpy.

    I don't think it's anything to worry about, I had a mechanic do a test drive in mine to diagnose a [different] problem and it was clear to hear at the time and he never passed comment.

    I rang my mate who owns a 150bhp vectra he said his whistles as-well and he works for a car garage so i will take my turbo is fine. I must say i like the whistle sounds cool

    fully de-catted + air box mod and a few other bits dremmel drilled smooth + turbo whistle.

    Mine whistles happily from around 1500rpm, as far as I know they all do it. Heard mine more since I did the airbox mod and fitted and K&N.

    Mine does... sounds like a police car... i take it thats what your on about??? Ive just fitted induction kit on mine... i miss the flutter from my astra GSiT so stuck it on this lol.

    Yeah a little like a police car siren mine has been doing it with the past two year and mondeo was the same . I have done the air box mod and a remap maybe that makes it whistle a little bit louder .
