    Default which auto vectra?

    hi all
looking to get a auto vectra as the missis is unable to drive a manual due to problems with her knees and hips.
i know the 2.8 v6 is quick but im not keen on the £475 road tax, so probably looking at 1.9 or 3.0 cdti unless the petrols are cheaper in the long run i.e parts, reliability. we only do less then 4000 miles a year. also not ruling out 2.2i direct.
    any input would be grateful
    thanks

Not worth getting a diesel if all you're doing PA is 4000 miles.

I've got a 6 year old 2.2 direct auto. Apart from the usual that goes wrong with them (i.e. fuel pump, regulator, and camchain) it's been on the whole ok. All the things that went wrong were sorted out either fully or partially under warranty. Just sailed through it's 3rd MOT.

thanks Big Dave, just wanted something that was a bit nippy, i mapped my old 1.9 cdti and loved it, i dont believe there is much you can do to the 2.2i? ive read its not worth getting the 3.0 cdti mapped has this could be more money then its worth. maybe i should forget about nippy and think more practical

The 2.2 direct is nippy enough for me. If you use the autobox in tiptronic mode, then it's even more versatile.

0-60 in just under 10 secs.

I never driven a auto so unsure how they work, will look up tiptronic mode.

the 3.0 cdti with an auto box drives lovely but its a bad tuning combination. the 3.0 dont like being mapped and am not sure if the af40 is more fragile than the f40

if you dont mind a pre facelift then you could consider the 3.2

I have a 2006 2.2 direct auto. My first auto and I love it tbh, yes not much can be done to them performance wise but its still nippy in its own class. A good panel filter/exhaust and map will see you 170bhp with great low down torque.

Like all modern cars, it has an ECU (brain). It can be rechipped.

The 2.2 engine orginally came from the VX220 (albiet the direct is slightly different, but the 2.2SE was the same), and people were remapping them.
