    Default cdr 2005?

Hello guys, yesterday I pulled the unit out usedd a coat hanger to pop the pins to pull it out was tricky no doubt lol... I picked up a nice little sub off the car boot sale for 5 quid,

once I got it out I hooked the sub up by putting it negative and positive on the back rear speaker on the right side, the head unit powered It but got kinda warm ill probably need an amp, so disconnected it from the head unit.. but if I was to leave it on do you think it would damage or burn the cdr out... what upgrade could be used, a nice one to keep steering controls working? Cheers

Yes, the extra load would eventually cause damage to the output transistors in the amplifier in the head unit. You need an additional amplifier to drive the subwoofer. There are plenty on the market that will take speaker level inputs directly from your rear speakers without loading the head unit.

thanks rich, do you know where the best place to wire it up would be, i'm thinking of just maybe soldering it on to a rear speaker once i get an amp, as the cdr2005 cables into it are all on a plastic connector and save me the trouble of trying to get it out again.. any suggestions thanks

upon further research it looks like i will need to lose the rear speakers, and add a line driver linked below pc1 601 from halfords, to convert speaker wire to low amp rca connectors to wire it to an amp? can the wires be pulled out the iso block/loom or do i need to cut them

No. There are plenty of amplifiers that you can quite happily wire in parallel with the rear speakers to derive a subwoofer output, without affecting your rear speakers. You do not need to convert to line level or lose your rear speakers.

Might be better to speak to a car audio shop that wants to help you rather than sell you things you don't need.

Thanks rich that's good to know, your right I should call in to a store and see what can be sorted, I could but don't want to change head unit with it having the controls on the steering wheel would be nice to get a deep bass without damaging the hu, cheers
