Default What tyres should I get… Advice needed for a clear answer!

I am getting a bit fed up with the droning and lack of grip I am getting off the tyres which are fitted to my Vectra at present. So I was going to change them for some midrange tyres.

Problem is I can’t work out which size I should fit.

I have fitted Astra XP Penta’s to the car which are 18” alloys and presently have 225/40/R18’s fitted.

I searched the site and found some people have fitted this size of tread, some fit 235/45/R18, some go for 225/45/R18, some go for 235/40/R18, etc…

So I guess my question is which tyre size is the correct fitment for

I have 235/40/18 its one of the factory sizes. Tyres wise on the back I am trying the nt8000 from Neuton. Good price and no complaints so far.

I run 18" multispokes with 225/45/18 Avon ZZ3 tyres. Quiet, grippy, feels really stuck to the ground.

Ithink the 'factory fit for this rim size is 225/45/18. This is the closest reflection of 22/50/17 as far as I know to keep the MPG etc in track, other wise you should really be getting your car tech2'd to have the MPG and mileage calbrated.

It depends on the rim width aswell. My original elite wheels were 7.5" wide and had 215/50/17 fitted. My new wheels are 8" wide and have 225/40/18 fitted. The tyres look a little stretched and are running slightly slower so as soon as they're done I'm going for 235/40/18 which is the closest possible match to the originals.

    I agree.

8" rims are made for 235 or 245 mm wide tyres. I'm even thinking seriously about fitting 245/35/19 to raise the car a bit and filling in the wheels wells better... Provided this size exists and can be found. Its radius is only 3.65 mm more than the original 215/50/17 factory mount (I'm still in group 2 with the 235/35/19) and still inside the tolerance range.

Your idea of 235/40/18 is the best possible choice for 18" IMHO. The vectra behaves very well on 235 mm wide tyres (I would never put narrower ones : the car is heavy and prone to slip from the ass, though 225 mm are still acceptable).

Now 18" rims are generally often just 7"1/2 wide, so 225/40/18 is most commonly fitted (OEM approved), but it puts you into group 1 and needs a Tech2 reprog. So, Coldo, if your rims are wide enough, try to fit 235/40/18 instead. If the tyres flanks don't protrude too much from the rims, you won't regret it (plus you won't have to reprog the car).

I have Falken Ziez Ze912's in 225/40/18's on 8 inch rims, purely because they were cheaper than the 235/40's

I have 235/40's on my 18" xp2's which will more than likely be the same width as your pentas. I opted for neuton nt5000's as the reviews were good and so was the price. They are quiet and grippy. I'd recommend them to anyone.

im running 245/35/19 Neuton 5000. brilliant tyres, cant fault them. im going faster and faster round corners and it never fails. im trying to find the tyres limits! good price, good grip and low noise compared to my ****ty FULLRUNS. would take it a bit easy in the wet though still.
