Default Anyone familiar with the Renault Scenic?

    Hi folks,
Is there anything specific to look out for on these? The wife wants to buy this for herself http://m.gumtree.com/2001-renault-sc...6923722&page=1
Just to run around with the kids and do shopping in etc. So not many miles will be done in it.
The trouble is, im stuck in London working the Olympics so can't go and see the car myself. Hopefully my mate is going to have a look for me tho. .

drove most of the range when i was looking for one last year found none had any guts so had to go for the 2.0 one on a 54 plate i had it for 2 month why 2 month was i was waiting for the log book to come back if it came back faster i would of got rid faster
first digatal dash has a problem theirs a recall but you have to pay £100 towards the cost
the electric hand brake had a recall
the key is expensive to replace
the electrics on doors always fail
and boot is big but its i can fit more in the boot of a vectra than one of these
the middle box on the exhaust was changed twice in 2 mth as the baffle kept on falling out and rattling
and to top it off you cannot drive it like a car went round a bend and thought i was going to tip. then on a dual carridge way went to over take pulled out put foot down nothing their so dropped it down a gear and hit the rev limiter so how do you over take

the 1.4 you might as well get out and push it it will be faster

they do a rare 2.0t version but couldnt find one to test

I have never owned a French car before, and I never will but this one is for the wife, her money lol. Also, it's going to be her learner/first car so a small engine is fine. She ain't getting near my veccy! Cheers for the info, I will ask about the digital dash and handbrake.

its a 1.6vvt so ask if the timing belt has been done and when? and ask what was done ie belt tensioners and dephaser pully listen to it if it sounds noisey walk away as the dephaser is prob on its way out also it wont be that nippy the 1.6 engine aint got a lot of get up and go comon probs is as said and iffy digi dashes ,bad window regulator control modules if it has this problem and your lucky a good dry out with a hair dryer and some wd40 will solve it if not new module and worse case new door loom to module also very common for ing coils

Personally I would stay clear. My mother has one and has had nothing but problems with the dash, repaired twice and not even a year later knackered again. The window regulator was just another problem to add to the list

Do you want to do away with your wife, if so it is legalised murder. I would not go near one even if I had to walk 50 miles a day. You would be far better buying her a small Kia or Dihatsu? (SPELLING) much more reliable and probably cheaper in the long run.

If you're looking at the one in the link then the digi dash and hand brake shouldn't be a problem. The early scenics only had a digital milometer (like the Vec) and a plain old hand brake lever.

As mentioned make sure the timing belt/water pump/tensioners have been done or factor the cost of getting them done when making an offer.

Would I have one? Not a hope in hell, try looking out for an early Zafira instead.
