Default Quick wash (56k....put the kettle on!)

The car was absolutely minging and it desperately needed a wash....

So i decided to wrap up and give her a wash....needed an excuse to use a few new products aswell!

The car was pretreated with meguiars all purpose cleaner whilst it was still dry. It was diluted 10:1 in a 2 litre garden sprayer which was sprayed all around the bottom half of the car. I've also got a meguiars foaming head sprayer which i used to apply megs all purpose cleaner diluted 4:1 on the alloys and in the wheel arches.

You can see below the difference that the foaming head makes, much thicker foam and clings to the surface for longer. Even the APC being sprayed out of the garden sprayer was lifting the dirt, as you can see from the dirt tracks on the boot.

According to the detailing forums the wash mitt is out, and the shMITT is IN. People are still very dubious as to whether it will cause any additional swirling of the paintwork over a lambswool or microfibre mitt. I wanted to try it out for myself and so here is what i think of it.

First what it looks like, approximately 8-10 inches in diameter with extremely soft white foam. The backside has yellow foam which is slightly more coarse for the tough stains like bugs and tar.

The shMITT is not a flat faced sponge, it has got these peaks and troughs so the dirt cannot scratch the paintwork but instead is washed away. I found it very effective.

I washed each panel individually starting from the top and working to the bottom. Rinsing after every panel. The shMITT is white and it's very easy to see when it's dirty and hence i found that i was rinsing alot more often, which can only be a good thing. A quick rinse and wring and it was almost completely clean. So far so good.

    shMITT after cleaning one panel!

wipe across the rim of bucket to get most of the muck off the shMITT:

and then a quick rinse and wring:

this is what the rinse bucket looked like after the wash!

i would have normally changed the rinse water half way through if the car was that dirty but was curious to see home much dirt the shMITT was leaving behind after rinsing.

I reckon these shMITTs are going to be a huge hit next year, even the die hard lambswool mitt washers will eventually go for a shMITT even though it is effectively a sponge. for £9 i think it is excellent.

The other thing i got round to using was the Chemical Guys Induro alloy wheel brush. Unfortunately, i wasn't as impressed with it as i was the shMITT. The brush was just too wide to fit between the disc and wheel rim, it was okay on the rears, but couldn;t do a thing on the fronts.

Brought a trusty toilet brush aswell to do the arches with. Gave excellent results.

a few shots of the finishes result:

A few pics of the car afterwards:

Looks very smart Harry, I washed mine and Larisa,s yesterday and went over them with some Optimum Car Wax, it went on very easy.Hopefully keeping the weather out untill I can give them a good going over. The Colinite 476s seems to be holding up very well though .PS hope you and your wife have a nice Christmas.

if you're talking about the induro brush Steve then i got mine from www.carwashnwax.com - for a fiver i thought it was worth a try

when i bought it i thought the bristles around the edges would be useless, but found that if i used it 'that way round' i.e. the birstles scrubbing the wheel i not the blue scourers, it did actually fit in between the wheel and the brake disc. only on the back though, front disc size wouldnt allow this.

with 19's it'll be alot easier to use, but not sure how beneficial it will be if you're going for the 340mm AP Racing brake discs.

If you want i'll measure how wide it is if that helps.

i'm actually thining about ripping one side of the scourer off and seeing if that helps.
