    Default Z28NET Coilpacks?

    Hi there,

I was misfiring on cylinder 5 last week, so took the oppertunity to have my set of NGK Iridium plugs gapped to .8 and put in. The car drives fine again but I can't help but notice a slight "bump" when idle, I dont even know whether its just me, but I don't think the idle is as smooth as it was.

So im thinking maybe a coilpack is on the way out. I do have the club trade card but wondered wheres the best place to get coilpacks for the z28 block as vauxhall will probably be expensive.

    Cheers

    Tom

A PM from spoons that is doing the rounds

Make sure you speak to this guy. Identical coil pack is about £37+VAT from these guys. £10 postage.

You can get the coilpacks cheaply from:-

    Rob Hicks
    CES UK
    01978 365 392

He also does the NGK R7438-8 racing spark plugs as well

Yes there are 6 coilpacks, one for each cyclinder and no you dont have to replace all of them.

Try to identify which one is faulty and just replace that one. IF you get really stuck, buy three new ones and replace the back three (as they are hardest to get to)... then use the remaining coilpacks to find the faulty ones at the front... trial and error. But the front are much easier to get to

Be ware that when I ordered mine they send 1 wrong one which I didnt realise until the engine was stripped

    Thanks!

I will give him a call and order a couple of coilpacks. Also... those NGK racing sparks, any benefit to me replacing my iridiums with them that I have just put in?

    Cheers

I got 3 from CES UK £140 inc VAT and Postage. Very helpful guy. Make sure you speak to Rob, I originally spoke to another guy from the sam enlace and he was gonna charge me £80 +VAT.

Vauxhall charge something like £249 each and I'm not even sure if that is VAT inclusive

Not really unless you are running very high boost (20+psi) or Nitrous Oxide

Your Iridiums should be good enough. The racing plugs run at cooler temperatures which is important on high power mapped engines and are pregapped at 0.7mm instead of the recommended 0.8mm

I only use them because of my Nitrous install

    Well,

Had my NGK Iridium Tip plugs put in and gapped to .8. My mechanic also switched coilpacks 5 and 6 around for me so that if it was a faulty coilpack, the misfire would happen on cylinder 6 now instead of 5.

Anyway.... I drove the car away, seemed fine, but i couldnt help but think something felt different about the car. It was pretty hesitant on the throttle and it seemed to be down on power. Anyhow, after cleaning it today I had a sit in it for a while and I can still feel a slight bump on idle, so I took it out for a spin and sure enough, when them revs go up, i can feel and hear that misfire. Gave it the beans as well and got the engine light up again.

Needless to say, since the plug change and coilpack switch over its a lot less noticable.... But I think this has to be a dodgy coilpack. You guys agree?
