    Default Xmas Holiday Modding Already

Been out this morning trying something I had in mind for a while. I wanted to make the button used with the Nokia CK7W a bit more discreet.
My first attempt back in the summer was to drill out a hole in the switch blank & mount the button pretruding through.

This was ok but the button messed around as it would stick & randomly end calls, redial & activate the voice dialing.

So this morning I have gone from this

    To this

The TC switch which is a slightly differant shade I know is simply a push to make button. I removed the Nokia button off the end of its cable & connected the necessary wires to the two pins on the back of the switch which get shorted together when pressed. This can be used to recreate the same functions in the same way the Nokia button did. Only feature I've lost is the volume control but that's not an issue as the volume is adjusted via the stereo anyway.
I've even managed to illuminate it also. The Nokia LED is a meesley 3 volt supply to it, the TC switch seems to be 12v so I have just simply taken an ignition feed to the necessary pin to illuminate the switch.
I'm pretty chuffed, just need to replave the old switch blank now.
Off out now so gonna see how it behaves this time.

I like the 1st attempt, could you not make the hole slightly bigger, that might stop it sticking, while retaining the look.

The hole I think was big enough. It was how I mounted the pcb of the nokia button inside I think was the problem.
Inside the switch blank from behind is a deep rectangular tube. I had to cut the pcb up to make it small enough to fit inside, fortunantly it only meant losing the surface mounted led, the main part of the switch pcb remained intact. What was left fitted inside the rectangular tube by fractions of a mm. I was filing it down until if fitted.
Once inside about the only way I could fix it inplace was using this like industrial version of blue tac which is black that we use. Was hoping it would of set & held it firm but with the need to push on the button caused it to move & so dislodged it. Once slightly twisted in the hole the button would start to stick on the surrounding switch blank.

As for the shade of the new switch it is right, it just doesn't look right in the picture for some reason, have just got back in & it looks & seems to wok fine.
