    Default Fuel Filter

Just had a heated argument at my local VX dealership, and they are going to investigate

I ordered a Fuel Filter, based on the part number from the previous service
Removed it yesterday to find the part was completely different and fitted the new part

This suggests the Fuel Filter was not replaced at the previous service, so the previously fitted one had in fact done 40K miles (two years)

This older Fuel Filter is the OE part
93185604 (has the part number stamped on the top, manufactured by Bosch, and has strips between the top and bottom of the canister)

The new Fuel Filter is the After Market part
93190458 (this has a paper appearance)

This now explains the difference I had noted
The OE part is in fact capable of coping with 30K miles
The reason I noted the difference is that the dealership had not changed it!

I still have my doubts about the After Market part, so would not exceed 10K miles, as many have found already

There is virtually no difference in cost, so I would recommend using :
    93185604

Yes, I replaced mine and the engine started straight away, then after about 40 seconds cut out which I knew it would do as the air passed from the canister
It took about eight complete attempts to restart, thought "Oh no, what now" as I made the final attempt and noted the battery was starting to struggle to turn the engine over
I then let the engine idle for about 30 seconds, just to make sure

A new Fuel Filter is now available specifically for the Y30DT and Z30DT
    95507489
Mine was fitted last week and is a vast improvement over the other two versions
However, note this is still limited to 10K miles / 1 year so be aware of this

TBH its really the trouble with these canister style filters, virtually no way of marking them. Other than opening them up and placing something inside, or opening them up after the service. At least in the past you could scratch a mark into the old types.

You can with these too, imprint the date it was inserted on to the top
It's easier with the OE one as the top is metallic

Yes but that's reliant on the mechanic doing it, and the customer then opening them up to have a look, both almost highly unlikely to happen.
